Milestones, declutering and giveaway

Wow, guess what? I've reached 10.000 blog clicks!
In retrospect 2011 has certainly proved to be a successful year: I've graduated, lost weight (still coming up with a post on that), started selling my jewellery on Etsy, turned 30...but most importantly I've met some many amazing people via the great and Almighty Internet.
And I feel immensely privileged to able to call some of you my friends.
Though I am very outspoken and sociable, I am extremely shy and reserved when it comes to making new friends. Blogging has provided me with a perfect outlet for expressing my thoughts and ideas. It has been instrumental in shaping my identity in the past year as I struggled to find my centre, my purpose in life and my self-worth.
I couldn't have done it without you! Thanks!

Time for a giveaway I think :-D
As a token of my appreciation for having such an intelligent, graceful and kind audience, I'll be giving away this pair of earrings.
All you have to do qualify is leave a comment on this post with your contact info or a link to one by 22nd November.

Here is the completely optional part of the programme:
I'm in the process of figuring out what exactly I want to do with my blog.
I don't plan on any drastic changes. I'm still determined and committed to leave this blog purposefully void of all and any labels (like DIY, fashion, lifestyle...). My blog is and remains a reflection of my personality. And that's one eccentric mix!
What I'd like from you, my dear readers is a feedback on the contents, quality and frequency of my posts. Do you feel I should change anything and if so what?
To that end, I feel it important to say that I've been seriously considering dropping the Friday film post. I feel it's attracting the wrong kind of attention and deflecting from the real goal of this blog.
What do you think?

  1. It sounds like you already know which changes you wish to make. It's good to have a theme for your blog.....saying that I talk about more things that I enjoy in life than just the name of my blog. I thought that could be annoying to some people...but I figure..it's my blog and I will chat about what I want and enjoy....and that is why we do it after all!. Good on you for doing a giveaway..they are very pretty.

  2. Jenni: As I said, still unsure about the film posts. I love films and I love writing the reviews, but I'm continually questioning the added value of my posts. Are my reviews really helping people that sort of thing. And I absolutely agree with what you wrote about blogging on various topics :-)

  3. Maybe you could mention films once in awhile in passing in other posts?

I love your blog, and I'm so glad to have met you on the big internet :)

  4. It has been a big year for you! Congrats on the blog stats; it always feels good to know people want to read what you have to say. I like that you include more personal info than just pictures of jewelry (I tend to just stick to jewelry, and I even bore myself sometimes). I really enjoy seeing your pictures of trips and dinners and the fun things you do. Definitely keep that up!

  5. Susan: Thanks. That sounds like a very doable idea. Or maybe change from a weekly post to a monthly post.
I like your blog too and your comments are always thoughtful and so incredibly kind.

Heidi: It just all came together, i guess. And Thanks so much for the feedback. I put a lot of thought and effort in the posts you mentioned and it makes me so happy to see people respond with kindness and interest.

  6. I understand you for feeling/having thoughts about your own blog. Me too.
Every now and then. Would it feel good to do some things differently?
A change might/ might not be a positive one. However, it might keep the blog " fresh ". But then, a blog changes, as you yourself change.
Since you are thinking about some changes, I think you should follow your instincts.

  7. Mette: The organic evolution you talked about is inevitable and most welcome. This tweaking I'm talking about would be a purposeful correction, one of few I've made. My guiding parameters have always been authenticity and community. People who really want to be here reading what I have to say not some artificially pumped up numbers of visitors. But you already know all this :-)

  8. Ana, I just jumped over from Mette's blog because when I read your comments they sounded just like my own, and so I was thinking that I should check out your blog again. I am adding more blogs to my list to follow because I really like to read and comment and am finding that I cannot do that. I am going to be visiting you more frequently.

I did not know that you made jewelry and sold on Etsy. Etsy has emptied my pockets : )

Please enter me in your drawing, it would be lovely to have your work but I will check you out there too.

I think you should not force your blog to be something, unless of course like other Etsy sellers you want to use it to promote your art. Visiting you is like visiting a friend where one could chat about anything.

That was my two cents' worth...now off to other blogs and oops off to work. xx

  9. MrsLittleJeans: :-D you're so sweet. I've been quietly hopping over to your blog for some time now, your cats are adorable and your reading selection always leaves me pondering.
Etsy can be a dangerous place, I agree. As for bloggers who use their blogs for (not so) covert advertising, I find it unwholesome.

  10. Hi coffee addict,
I'm sad to hear you are thinking of dropping the Friday night film selection. I quite enjoyed it!
I like your blog just as it is, but that's not very helpful feedback so -
to give my feedback - I especially enjoy your thought provoking debate posts, cute pics of Rufus and of course anything bead/jewellery related!
Like that you post regularly, there's always something good to read, and think it's great fun how we tend to be online at roughly the same times and comment on each others blogs :-)

  11. bead addict: Thanks, that was a very informative feedback. As for the film posts, like Susan suggested, I might still do them occasionally, maybe on a monthly basis. I'll still be writing on various subjects and posting stuff from my life like Rufus and road trips. I'm also planning to post some tutorials sewing and jewellery related but those take a loooot of time to put together.
