Black comedies. In my opinion the most difficult genre there is. A black comedy can be absurd, distasteful and just very off putting at times. However the truly outstanding black comedies set out to expose human weaknesses and darker aspect of our psyche in a context that evokes both laughter and repulsion at the same time.That's why one there is no neutral opinion when it comes to black comedies. You either love them or loathe them.
The Cohen brothers are the masters of the genre and this little gem is a classic Cohen piece. An all star cast takes the viewer on a roller coaster ride of crazy, neurotic, malcontent personalities all struggling for their position in society. There's adultery, greed, power struggle, blackmail, murder...
If you're a fan of the genre then this film is a must see.
