If I had to choose, I'd say this was my favourite movie of all time. The moral of the story is simple enough and by all means not original: courage and perseverance in a glum and cruel prison environment. The beauty of the movie is in the chemistry between the leading characters, both exquisitely cast.
This is a really lovely scene from the movie, where Andy plays a record of The Marriage of Figaro to give the prisoners a sense of hope and beauty of the World. Halfway into the clip you can hear Red (played by Morgan Freeman) beautifully narrating the sense of wonderment and awe the prisoners felt.
...and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.
