Bits of wisdom

Creativity is seldom the result of abundance.

  1. So in other words: Creativity emerges from the lack of abundance?

  2. Mette: I hate to draw a line when discussing complex concepts, but in my opinion most of the time creativity springs from an environment where children/people aren't given everything "on a silver platter"
When I was a child, my parents couldn't afford to buy me a Barbie doll house. I started collecting old cardboard packaging (toothpaste, medicine boxes, match boxes,...) Three months later I had collected enough to create my own house and "furnished" it with the boxes: the toothpaste box became a bed and the match box became a pillow for my one and only Barbie doll.

  5. ida: as I said, it isn't black and white. Seeing kids today, parents going out of their way to provide them with everything, as far as material things go...doesn't really encourage resourcefulness or creativity.

Susan: Had a lot of stuff on my mind lately...creative process especially, what drives us, motivates us, inspires us as human beings. Trying to find my own path I guess.

  6. I'm not sure where creativity comes from, but I do get your point about abundance not being motivating. I think you have to feel something passionately though, and that can happen whether there is abundance or not. Lack of abundance doesn't guarantee that one will find a passion.
