Happiness comes in a box: So I won't say he never buys me flowers

We all know them: the little trinkets that cost next to nothing but they make us incredibly happy. Whether it's because they fulfill a certain purpose in our household or are there simply for their intrinsic beauty.

Last week Mr. C bought me something that's been or household/decorations list for over a year: a paper towel holder by Vigar. I've got quite a few of their kitchen accessories already, among other a plastic dotted apron and extra long rubber gloves, which are incredibly practical. And something that for reasons of propriety I'll never feature on the blog: a toilet brush ;-)

Again, this is quite quirky and infantile, the flower is made of silicone (or rubber?) and has a tiny ladybug on one of the petals.  I love how it brightens up my kitchen counter and the fact that this is one plant Rufus won't nibble on.

The towel rack came in a cute cardboard box. We had a lot of fun watching Rufus trying to wiggle in and out of it. In all the years I still haven't figured out what's up with cats and their obsessions with cardboard boxes and paper bags.

I wish I knew the answer to your problem; maybe Mrs LJ does!

    1. Thanks Mette :-) I've blogged over and over how utilitarian our flat is, it's too small to have stuff that serves purely as decoration so I use these household items to brighten it up a bit.

    1. oh yes, Rufus is always there to help, inspect but mostly get in the way whenever we're doing something...
the box was only interesting for the first 4 hours. It's always the same, any paper bag or box is fascinating for Rufus, he climbs in, nibbles on it for a couple of hours and that's that.

  4. It's cute and cheerful -- who cares if it's juvenile if it makes you smile whenever you see it :)

Cats are total weirdos. That's all there is to it.

    1. Heidi, couldn't agree more. I know the post may sound apologetic, but I like to do an evaluation of the stuff I own, what appeals to me aesthetically and how my taste changes through time. Knowing I've wanted this towel holder for the past 3 years and still do is on some level reassuring. It means that the my fascination juvenile/whimsical aesthetic isn't something transitory or a coping mechanism.

  5. So cute. Kitties like to go inside boxes and cartons to hide. They think you can't see them in there.

    1. Susan, I tried to get a better photo of him being cooped up and cosy in the box but Rufus was so annoyed by my attempts he kept looking away. Almost like he knew I was trying to blog about his weird behaviour and decided not to cooperate ;-)

  7. I absolutely love things like this. I used to have dish drainers (the things that go in the sink to plug it up?) with quirky pull tops.
